DC Firefighters Burn Foundation President Jason Woods Receives National Burn Care Honor

The DC Firefighters Burn Foundation is proud to share that our founder and president, Jason Woods, received the 2026 John A. Moncrief Award at this year’s American Burn Association Annual Meeting.

The John A. Moncrief Award is one of the American Burn Association’s most respected honors, recognizing individuals or fire service organizations that have made outstanding contributions to burn prevention, burn care, and collaboration between the fire service and medical communities.

For those who know Jason, the recognition felt especially meaningful.

A 26-year veteran of the District of Columbia Fire Department, Jason currently serves as a Sergeant in the department’s Health and Safety Division and is a member of the Department’s Incident Management Team. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to improving firefighter safety, advancing burn prevention education, supporting injured firefighters and their families, and strengthening connections between firefighters, burn survivors, and burn care teams.

His work has contributed to the planning, operational, and recovery phases of numerous National Special Security Events and major incidents, including Presidential Inaugurations, State of the Union addresses, Capitol Fourth celebrations, and responses to critical emergencies.

Beyond his role within the fire department, Jason has spent decades helping build a stronger, more connected burn community — one rooted in prevention, peer support, recovery, and compassionate care.

Under his leadership, the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation has expanded its impact across the Washington metropolitan region, supporting pediatric burn care, survivor aftercare programs, firefighter family support initiatives, burn prevention education, professional training opportunities, and national burn recovery programs.

The award also reflects Jason’s long-standing commitment to bringing together firefighters, healthcare providers, survivors, and families in ways that improve both clinical care and long-term recovery.

During this year’s conference, Jason additionally served in educational leadership roles as a Course Director for multiple sessions focused on burn disaster response, wildfire and mass casualty preparedness, and firefighter rescue operations.

We are incredibly proud to see Jason’s leadership, service, and dedication recognized on a national stage — and grateful for the impact he continues to have on the burn community every single day.
