2026 Night at the Navy Yard Raises Over $80,000 for Burn Survivors & Pediatric Burn Care!
On Saturday, May 9th, more than 325 guests gathered along the waterfront at HQO Events for the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation’s 2026 Night at the Navy Yard Gala — an evening dedicated to supporting burn survivors, injured firefighters, and pediatric burn care programs throughout the Washington Metropolitan Region.
The event brought together firefighters, burn survivors, medical professionals, sponsors, donors, and community supporters for an unforgettable evening overlooking the Anacostia River. Guests enjoyed incredible food from Founding Farmers Catering & Events, fresh oysters from The Salt Line, live music from The Wave Band, a silent auction, raffles, and special appearances from the DCFD Emerald Society Pipes & Drums and the DCFD fireboat crew.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came from featured speaker Lionel Crowther, a Winnipeg firefighter and burn survivor who shared his journey following a devastating 2007 line-of-duty flashover injury that left him burned over 70% of his body.
Lionel spoke about the challenges his family faced after the incident, but also about the purpose that grew from tragedy — dedicating his life to peer support, mentorship, firefighter safety, prevention education, and helping other burn-injured firefighters and families navigate recovery.
Over the years, the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation has proudly worked alongside Lionel through firefighter burn survivor programming and peer support initiatives, while Lionel’s leadership and advocacy have continued to inspire and strengthen the Foundation’s own mission.
His story served as a powerful reminder of why the Foundation’s work matters — and how connection, support, and community can profoundly impact recovery after burn injury.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of sponsors, donors, volunteers, auction contributors, and guests, the evening raised OVER $80,000 - critical funds that will support pediatric burn care at Children’s National Hospital and the Foundation’s burn survivor support programs.
To everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, bid in the auction, or supported the event in any way: thank you for helping make Night at the Navy Yard such a meaningful success.
Relive the Evening!
From waterfront views and live music to powerful stories, emotional moments, and an incredible community coming together in support of burn survivors — Night at the Navy Yard was a night we won’t soon forget.
