AFTERCARE SUPPORT SERVICES

Healing doesn’t end when a patient leaves the hospital — it evolves.
Through our support of aftercare programs and providers, we help burn survivors and their families continue rebuilding life, identity, and purpose long after the initial injury.

Healing doesn’t end when a patient leaves the hospital — and that’s where our work continues.

The Foundation helps fund and strengthen aftercare programs that support burn survivors of all ages and their families long after the initial injury. Whether it’s a child returning to school, an adult navigating life after a long hospital stay, or a firefighter adjusting to a new sense of normal, we make sure no one walks that road alone.

We invest in programs that build community, confidence, and hope — from family gatherings at the National Zoo to peer-support training that helps survivors turn their experiences into strength for others. These connections remind survivors that recovery isn’t just physical — it’s emotional, social, and lifelong.

Reentry can be one of the hardest parts of the journey. Kids may worry about stares or questions at school. Adults might face challenges returning to work or social situations. Through our support of reentry programs, we help survivors and families develop the tools and confidence to face the world again — with compassion and understanding on their side.

Our commitment continues through partnerships with burn teams like those at Children’s National Hospital and the Washington Hospital Center Burn Center, where we fund aftercare initiatives, specialized equipment, and research that advance treatment and rehabilitation. Every resource we provide helps ensure survivors — both young and grown — have the support they need to heal fully and live fully.

When I was recovering, someone showed up for me. Now I get to do the same — and that’s what this program makes possible.
